Software Engineer in Clam Cybersecurity
Self Employed from 02/2026 – Current
Clam Cybersecurity is a static website that I host using Cloudflare and that I had planned to use for a cybersecurity consultancy. IrishVPN (https://irish-vpn.com) is a site I built for experience in running an internet service, with payment processing through Stripe and production database migration using Flyway.
Software Engineer in Oracle Corporation
Employee from 01/2020 – 01/2026
Part of the Oracle Solaris operating system engineering team. The team followed an Agile methodology, with daily stand-ups and two-week sprints. Each four-week cycle consisted of two weeks testing the latest Solaris builds, followed by two weeks of improving infrastructure.
For Solaris, I analysed hundreds of bugs which could vary from being straightforward to involving low-level debugging of kernel panics using MDB. I published bug reports and I was assigned bugs to fix with code reviewers and repository owners. I worked on bugs across most of Solaris’s components and some were client visible collaborations.
For infrastructure, the work varied from software development, to DevOps configuration, to migrations and setting up cloud services. This included taking the lead on a migration from Mercurial to Git; setting up our GitLab; designing a Python Django webapp; deploying a cloud based load balancer, improving uptime of our programs, and reducing Jenkins failure rates; and implementing MySQL replication in cloud-based containers, solving a significant database bottleneck.
